As a general rule it’s either a connection prob or the board itself. I don’t know to which model you refer but would seriously suggest you send the module (power and display if appropriate) to EMW for testing having advised them too of your problem. That way you can avoid the hastle and possible wasted effort of trying to reprogramme it. 😉

thats what i usually do but i just wondered if it was worth a punt on a smart card i seem to see quite a few with the f12 fault and sometimes i can clean them up and sometimes i have a spare board io can fit and reprogram was just wondering if i could save the boards without having to send them off
    thanks for your reply

The only real snag with that idea is that there are 2 many different smartcards needed dependant on model and production number these days. And, not only that but different types of Smartcard readers needed to download those eeproms (or so I’m led to believe. 😕 )

I adhere to the ‘poke and hope’ diagnostic method, beyond that I prefer to send the boards off to the experts for them to check and sort out. I wouldn’t attempt to entertain purchasing this smartcard crap, I’m far too smart to realise there ain’t nuthin’ smart about them. 😈

    Re: hotpoint f12

gotta say i have had the reader for a few years now and i have a supply of good pcbs taken from scrap sealed drum machines when i get a faulty board on goes one of those a card is ordered and usually with me within 48 hours its a doddle of a job to program takes less than 2 minutes and i have never had a failure
my only problem is i am short of mk 6 hotpoint boards and emw dont always have them in stock and some of the boards i take off are so badly burned that i am sure emw would not stand a chance but sometiems its just f12 and i wonder if that is not just a software issue and worth a crack at carding one i may still give it a go if i do i will post my results up for others to use
