Would be grateful for any pointers. Machine is a good age (but I’m not yet ready to condemn it) and had been 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} reliable until recent times.

First problem was an A-5 error code which I translated to be pump related. Took out motor/pump unit and split them to find no blockages or debris within pump body. Reassembled and fitted back into machine but same problem persisted. Google helped me to find than another FDF780 owner had apparently diagnosed/cured an A-5 issue by clearing a blockage in pressure switch tube. I decided nothing ventured…..and after a couple of squeezes of a squeezy bottle (full only with air) all worked ok. Phew. Cue much back-slapping and kudos from Mrs wclark1238 😀

And then, about 2 weeks and perhaps 4 washes later, a small amount of water was noted on kitchen floor :con: Not tears but logic suggested something to do with the dishwasher.

Tipped her onto her back again – dishwasher, not Mrs wclark1238 – and quickly noted tell tale signs of weeping from the pump/motor joint. Pump/motor removed again and separated. Thorough visual inspection and clean up (o-ring and mating surfaces all looking fine) so I reassembled but this time took extra care in ensuring full compression of o-ring when mating motor body to pump. Also was extra careful in bending tags fully so that motor and pump were firmly attached to one another with no movement. Refitted to machine and crossed fingers.

In order to observe and ensure the success of my ‘repair’ I decided to run the machine through a wash cycle with the bottom cover removed and the two sides of the machine propped up (but still level) on a couple of small crates. This just lifted base of machine 15″ of so off of the floor such that I could get my head underneath to see bottom of pump/motor etc while it went through the cycle. Hey presto – through the wash and not a sign of any leakage whatsoever.

Now happy to put removable base piece back on in readiness to reinstall permanently back under kitchen counter. Rather than tip it to fit base piece I got underneath (still propped on crates at this point) and snapped the base piece into position. As it popped into it’s clips the machine stated chirping and pumping.

Error code A-1 with flashing power light. My first thought was that I’d almost certainly bumped the float and thus closed the flood detection switch and that’s why it went into fault. Figured that it would reset itself…..but no. So, I tipped her over and removed and confirmed continuity and switching on the micro-switch. 0 ohms resistance and infinity as switched as expected. But it stubbornly refuses to ‘play’ anymore. Cannot understand how/why the A-1 error persists.

Grateful for any pointers as to where/what else I should be looking at beyond the float switch.

    Thanks in anticipation.

You did reconnect the wiring plug to the correct terminals on the float switch?

I did. Float switch was only disconnected after A-1 reared its head. In any case the plug/socket is ‘keyed’ such that it only goes one way.

Thanks for your time in reading so far.

Remove the base and take the wiring off the float switch and try again, if it then works you have a problem with the switch or the float mechanism.

If it faults without the switch connected then it suggests you may have got water onto the electronics.

Ok, makes sense as float switch is open circuit during normal operation so disconnecting eliminates it as the problem.

Am aware that these fault codes can be vague in the extreme….is A-1 only relating to leak detection/flood prevention or is there some other tenuous cause that also throws up A-1s?

    Thanks again.

It’s an Indesit, anything is possible. 🙁

Still shows A-1 with float switch removed from circuit…..grrrrrr!
