Hotpoint fdfex11011k f06 fault

when starting the wash cycle the machine drains and then after about a minute or two shows the red tap symbol and shortly after displays f06 and bleeps.
i have established that there is no voltage being send to the inlet solenoid.
(i can activate the solenoid by applying a 240v supply directly and the machine will fill)
i have also checked the operation of the level/pressure switch and that operates correctly.

if i manually fill with water after the initial on start draining the machine will commence the pre rinse and drain then the f06 will return.
can anyone help?

when you say manually fill with water, if you mean pour the water in through the door then that wont work as it has to go through the inlet turbine to measure the water coming in
