ParticipantI have a Hotpoint FDW80 dishwasher, and just recently it has come up with an error code AL05.
I have consulted the manual which says to clear all the filters, and try again.
When I check the filters there was practically no debris in them.
After washing the filters I tried another wash, but the error still appeared.
The dishes are being washed and dried properly, but a small amount of water is being left in the filter hole at the bottom of the dishwasher.
I have had some experience with blocked drains, so I put some diluted caustic soda in the filter section at the bottom of the dishwasher. Left it for 10 minutes, then ran the washer on a wash rinse cycle with no dishes.
This rinse cycle completed fine, in fact the next two proper washes with dishes were fine, but then the AL05 error came back.
If I continue to run the dish washer with this error, will the dishwasher suffer long term damage? If I use caustic soda again maybe for a long soak, are there any seals or pumps that could cause a leak or suffer long term damage?
I have read the two previous articles on this forum for someone who put there dishwasher on it’s side possibly damaging the pressure switch, and also getting a burning smell suggesting the waste pump could be damaged. Neither of these two scenarios have occurred, but is it possible that the pressure switch has become loose or damaged giving a false error?
Any advice appreciated.

First of all, do not put any more caustic soda in the machine what ever you do.
There are a series of steps to test when this fault code appears, the pressure switch or the ‘high pressure sensor or their respective hoses hoses could be blocked, unattached or split.
It can also be caused by poor circulation from main pump, loose wiring connections, outlet hose to low causing syphoning or even a faulty PCB.
It should not do any long term damage to the machine but it should abort the programme and switch on the drain pump in most cases, so not a lot of use until it is sorted.
It can be avoided by making sure you rinse the dishes before putting them in the machine and using a dishwasher cleaner at regular intervals.
If you can get it to run through a wash, try a dishwasher cleaning product, that might shift any internal gunge.

Bought some dish washer specific cleaner and set it going.
The error code did not come up after the wash cycle. Tried a full load of dishes, no error code.
Sounds like that was just the ticket, thanks for the advice.
