ParticipantHi guys,
Just wanted some practical info regarding bearing job on above machine.I have tended to give bearing jobs on these machines a wide berth. Thought I’d bite the bullet and give it a go. What is the routine for dismantling machine to remove drum and then bearings?
Thanks in advance

I dont try to get the bearing out just fit tub rear half and spider if required (cut through the fixing bolts with an angle grinder) I usually take the tub back to the workshop to strip and re build then take it back to re assemble

take out suspension pins. (push in barb and pull pin forward).
lift out tub assy.
remove motor and wiring that is ty-wrapped to tub.something along those lines.

wow whats all this about angle grinding the support screws off??!!, just unscrew them, dead easy, take a torx bit, insert, hit 3 times HARD, then try to tighten the screw, (will only turn about 2{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} but you will see it go) then unscrew, never fails if done right

Machine is at most 3 years old – why are you not refering it back to Hotpoint? Unless you’re going to bring the job in for under £90, which would be ridiculous given the work involved.

Chris,
it was a bit of an experiment for me, because I have not tried doing a rear drum change on one of these. I don’t think I’ll be doing any more. I usually do pass them onto Hotpoint under warranty.Alan
P.S. you don’t have a part number for them drum support fixing screws do you?

Its all well and good refering people back to Hotpoint but it depends on your call-out charge. If like me your call-out is £18 plus vat you can’t keep affording to give work away. I always give people the choice of going back to hotpoint under the 5 years but it’s surprising how many don’t want to.
My normal charge for bearing change on a WMA is £129.
Yes Hotpoint would do it for £94 but the customer has also paid me £21.15 for calling-out.
I would love to charge £40, or more, call-out and then refer the customer back to Hotpoint. I would never have to get my hands dirty.
