This is a Hotpoint Iced Diamond FF RFB50 which has water pooling on the bottom of the fridge part. I have tried to poke into the drain hole but it seems solid. The freezer part is iced up too, though that may be a seperate issue. Can someone please advise – should I use some force on the drain hole, or could that do damage? Grateful for your advice, thanks

Re: Hotpoint FF pools of water

    Hi there,

Just been ‘googling’ the problem and saw your post.
    I have a Hotpoint COMBINATION 70/30 FRIDGE/FREEZER HMB3121.

It’s just over 1 year old and collects a big enough puddle of water at the bottom to keep goldfish!

I have just followed the ‘poke the drainage hole procedure’ – I have used a long drinking straw. I have also pulled the lower glass shelf a few mm forward so that it is not too close or touching the back panel of the fridge.

    Will see how it goes.

psrrub02 – Some of these fridge freezers, where the drain pipe runs through the insulation (apposed to running outside the insulation under the condenser), are freezing as they pass by the freezer.

To confirm this is happening, switch off the appliance for 24 hours and see if the blockage disappears (defrosts.)

To repair it, the pipe needs to be re-rooted outside the insulation (which is a job for a qualified engineer).

Jammy1959 – A straw will not usually unblock a drain pipe. Use a long cable tie or even a long length of twin speaker cable etc.

MKR – Many thanks for the heads up on the drainage routing scenario. My model is intergrated, so I won’t be pulling it apart to check it out !
If the problem happens again I will be contacting Hotpoint and questioning the design and ask for the drain pipe to be re-routed – it’s only 14 months old.
