Hotpoint FF200E – fridge keeps warming up

I have had a Hotpoint FF200E since June 2007 (the first one only lasted 3 wks before Hotpoint replaced).

In August this year the Fridge stopped working. I phoned a local independent engineer who told me to defrost for 24 hrs then switch back on and it would work. And it did! He said they wouldn’t book in calls until the customer had done this as defrosting ALWAYS resolved the problem.

It happened again 4 weeks ago, again defrosted for 24 hours, again it worked. A dishwasher engineer (we don’t have much luck!) told me that there is a design flaw with the model and that it can be fixed. but when I asked Hotpoint to arrange this they helpfully told me that I had probably caused the problems by leaving the door open 😯

I intend going back to Hotpoint (and Currys) but is there anyone who can confirm that this is an issue with design?

Currys wanted to look at it but only for their fixed fee up front. I am reluctant to do this if I can prove in any way that it is a design flaw / fault given that I really haven’t had it that long.

Any advice gratefully received 🙂

not fair to use the words design flaw, but it will need a modification

2 different types, depending on serial number

When you say it needs a modification, does that mean that it is something that has gone through wear and tear, or is it something that was wrong with it in the first place?

I’m not trying to be pedantic, but I am frustrated that I may end up having to pay for something after such a short period of time, so I just want to be clear about it when I write to Hotpoint 🙂

imho most problems with these are down to people not using them correctly, ie putting loads of fresh food in freezer without putting it on super freeze before hand.
