Hi, Just got a Hotpoint FF72P fridge freezer off ebay. Got it home, spruced it up, and left it to settle for a few hours. Plugged it in, all worked great.

I realsied the fridge light bulb had blown, so i removed it. Realising I didnt have another bulb the same I put the old bulb back into the holder as to stop any moisture penetrating it etc. And the bulb made a white flash and a pop, and the whole thing went dead.
I have tried in different sockets and changed the fuse, but no signs of life, nothing on the display or anything.

    Any ideas on this one??

    Thanks

that does not sound good, if you have tried the fuse & still all dead you may well have blown the main control module

    Not at all good!
And looking at the cost of the part in your shop!! 😯

I have no idea what I can do now. Do I get it repaired, or simply move it on!!

i had one of these just yesterday, customer put a bulb in and it blew up, and yes it was the control board, blown to pieces

i had to repair the edge connector as well

not a good fridge freezer at all

    Hi

There is another point to this..Which is !

Having the bulb changed should not cause a board failure to this extent which would point to a design fault.

Yes we all know that the power should be turned off but even a bulb blowing on this model causes the same outcome which consumers cannot control.

its a good point, and your right

but, what do people do? do theyre suppsed to power off when changing lightbulbs… dont they turn the switch off to change a house light?

i see where your coming from, but there really isnt an argument at all.. we always recommend unplugging before commencing any work
