ParticipantHi Folks.
I have been to two of these fridge-freezers within the last month that have the same fault in that the interior lining of the fridge compartment has collapsed inwards , all buckled and distorted.
Is this a common problem?. What is the root cause?. Is there a remedy?.
Both fridges that I have been to were in the same block of flats, all kitted out in the same way about 3 years ago, so these fridges are possibly from the same batch. All replies much appreciated.
Regards,
Mike.

Hi Mal. Thanks for the response.
The situation with these two cases are that in both cases it was the same landlord in the same block of flats. These fridges failed during the hot weather and the landlord chose to throw money at the problem and change the fridges to obtain a quick result. What concerns me is what happens if more of these fridges fail. Before that event I would really like to be better informed in respect of the questions that I have raised.
Regards,
Mike

Good Morning.
Any Hotpoint guys out there.
Surely I cannot be the only soul to have met this problem.

Mike.

To be honest Mike it’s not a problem I have come up against, not with Hotpoints that is. A while back Whirpools were noted for the liner to become “unstuck” from the foam insulation, symptoms were “bubbling”of the liner on back panel and eratic temperature control, one knackered fridge
Where is the liner collapsing on the Hotpoints? could you sacrifice one of them and cut the liner out to see if there is a problem behind it. Could there be anti-condensation heaters in the insulation that has caused this? Until someone from Hotpoint confesses to a problem then its probably a case of waiting, “it will come out in the wash” as they say

Both fridges have gone to the big fridge mountain in the sky.
The first one was the worst, the 4 cuft fridge interior was reduced by about 50 percent. Its the back wall, top and sides. Wish I had taken a picture.Mike.

The interiors of fridges are vacuum formed from a single sheet of plastic, if its heated up again it tries to return to its original state i.e. flat sheet. So I get the impression that there may have been some sort of heat source involved with the fridges, what’s puzzling is that there were two. A picture would have been good even to show Hotpoint

Sounds about right. I am not sure but I dont think that there would be any sort of defrost heaters or such in the lining of the fridge section on this type of fridge. Could this happen through pressure changes due to extreme low temperature? I suppose if the defrost heaters in the freezer overheated it would blow hot air into the fridge compartment. Don’t know really, I can’t wait for the next one in the appartment block to fail so I can be there with my camera, so will the Hotpoint engineer I expect.

Hi Mike
Just a thought I wonder if the fridges have had an Ignition of gases not an explosion
