Participanthello there i came across your site whilst searching for information on fridge freezers,my problem is that i have a hotpoint FFA91 fridge freezer and in the freezer section part of the plastic wall/lining is cracked and bits of the plastic have broken off i have had a replacement fridge freezer through currys insurance they told me the appliance was dangerous as it could contaminate the food can you tell me how it can contaminate the food as i was going to give the f/f to my relative but dont want it to harm him if you can’t use the freezer would you still be allowed to use just the fridge any advice would be most helpful, thank you annemarie.

KeymasterHi Anne Marie,
It’s not so much contamination that you have to worry about but more the insulation will fail. This will lead to water leaking externally, ice formation on the outside or possibly an incorrect internal temperature meaning that the food may not be properly frozen. You could also get a combination of all three.
Basically the machine is goosed and I certainly wouldn’t advise using it.

hi, just a quick thought, if the splits are not too big i have seen them bridged with thick Duck tape, it dont look pretty but if someone wants a real cheap freezer then it can do the trick,

well if you can seal it with some good tough wide tape it should be ok down there, as its a frost free you souldn’t get any moisture into it if it seals well
