    Hello, I have Hotpoint FFA97 fridge freezer which is at least 10 years old. Two days ago during the recent heatwave it started bleeping a warning, showing that the freezer compartment was at +1 degree C. (Also, the fridge compartment was at +28 degrees C!) During this time my kitchen was at 33 degrees!

    Prior to this recent problem, I had noticed that the compressor would make a loud metallic thump sound whenever it turned on or off. It had been doing this for a couple of months.

    Is it likely that the compressor has now failed? Or was the hot kitchen temperature to blame? (33 degrees.)

    Any info or help would be appreciated, thank you.

    In addition to my comments above, the compressor seems to be running, and I can hear noise suggesting that the gas is circulating in the pipes, but it’s still not cooling the fridge or freezer.

    Any suggestions for what I could check would be greatly appreciated.
