Hello to all, I am just looking for a bit of advice. We have a Hotpoint FFP187 fridge freezer that we brought in Feb/2010 and recently I hung a new kitchen door whilst I was doing that, I knealt beside the fridge and noticed the carpet beside and directly underneath was very wet. On closer inspection I saw that there was moisture coming out of the side of the freezer compartment where the metal side meets the plastic inner tub and the folder metal edge underneath is starting to go rusty. We called hotpoint and were told it was £105 for a callout to inspect/repair the FF. We decided to go with a local repairman who charges £25 callout and then goes from there.
Once he had taken a look, he said that it was down to when it was made and that not enough foam had been in injected or badly applied, so it was allowing condensation to form inside and then it would naturally travel down and find a way out!
He said that it is a sealed unit and that can not be rectified even though the FF is working correctly. Should Hotpoint replace this FOC if I pursue it hard enough, as it was manufactured incorrectly? Or is he giving me some bad diagnosis, he has nothing to gain via this, as he does not sell FF,s.
