    A bit of advice required.

I have a Hotpoint FFS70 Frostfree Fridge/Freezer. Yesterday I noticed that the “Freezer High Temperature” alarm indicator was lit. I checked the compressor and it appeared to be functioning, the fridge was cold and at the correct temperature. I opened the freezer door and checked the food for any signs of thawing, all looked OK but to be on the safe side I transferrd it to another freezer. While doing this I noticed Ice around the base of the bottom draw lookingas thoughl it was coming from behind the air duct panel. I removed the panel and lo and behold the bottom of the freezer element was caked with ice, as was the drain hole blocked by ice. Only way was to defrost which I did over night. By morning all was clear of ice including the drain. I replaced the cover and powered up the unit and left all day. On return home the high temp light is now out, It has made ice cubes but, I can’t extimgush the “defrost indicator” by holding the button in as per the user guide. Could it be a sensor, PCB or something else?

The F/F apeaars to be working fine since the defrost a week ago, no build up of ice on the evaporator either. Only problem appears to be the “food defrost alarm” which wont reset by pushing the button. Any adeas?????

If this is the flush soft type control panel which i think it is you really have to push hard the area where the button is.
I’ve been to quite few calls like this and you really have to press hard to make contact with switch behind to cancel out the light.

    Thanks for the advice.

I tried with my fingers pushing all angles, nothing. Used the rubber end of a pencil and the light went out.

Obviously my fingers are larger than the BS for pushing switches.

Again, thank you for your help and to UK Whitegoods for this invaluable forum.

I too have one of these – and the same problem. I am just in the process of defrosting it now. I was looking for the manual online when I hit this forum.

I pressed and pressed that defrost alert and nothing happened – until I came back a day later and it had gone out.

It is possible that it was during that day that I discovered that the freeser door wasn’t shutting properly. To resolve that I took the trays out of the freezer – the door then shut properly. I couldn’t see why the door wouldn’t shut – I though maybe the hinges had shifted or the fridge wasn’t level. However, my alert light may have then gone out as I had resolved the cause of the defrost.

However, 2 weeks later, I have now discovered that the reason for the door not shutting is the growth of a block of ice behind the plastic back of the freezer. Hence the defrost.

So, it may be that your freezer is not able to freeze, for some reason, and that is why the light will not go out?

Ah, when you remove that plastic back you find that maybe you shouldn’t have done so until the unit had fully defrosted as the foam and aluminium rip apart!
