ParticipantMy Hotpoint First Edition DF54 dishwasher will not end any of it’s programmes/cycles plus, there is a burning smell coming from the inside of it. It just keeps washing away unless you switch it off. Also, the water won’t drain away.
There is no pumping sound but everything else seems to be working fine.Help !!

This machine is not the easiest machine to work on or access, even for the experts. It may just be a pump blockage or something more serious. Would strongly advise you have a look in Repairs@
Make sure you unplug if you are going to have a look yourself.December 30, 2005 at 7:34 am #159225DAZ123

SOUNDS LIKE THE THERMOSTAT HAS TRIPPED OR A HEATER FAULT – THESE WILL CONTINOUSLY WASH IF THERE IS SOME SORT OF HEATER FAILURE

IF MY MEMORY SERVES ME CORRECLTY THIS IS THE BRANDT BUILT MODEL WITH THE TIMER BEHIND THE KICK PANEL. THE USER ONLY HAS A 2 POSITION SELECTOR SWITCH. SO IF IT GETS STUCK IN THE HEAT CYCLE THE USER HAS NO WAY OF ADVANCING THE TIMER TO PUMP OUT.

Daz123,
That’s it exactly. Any ideas how I can ‘move’ it (the cycle) on, then ? 😕

Not easy, access to timer is at the bottom, behind the plastic kickstrip. A Torx screwdriver is required. Not something that should be attempted if you are not sure what you are doing, and although it will get rid of the water it will not solve your initial fault. Be sure to remove the plug. -
