ParticipantWe have a just bought a wireless temperature monitor/alarm for our new freezer out in the garage. It also has a thermometer unit for a fridge so I put it in Our old Hotpoint fridge Model No RL84P. I now find it is cycling between -5 to +10 degrees C . I have confirmed this by putting my Max/Min themometer out of the greenhouse in the fridge. The wife says no wonder the bananas keep turning black.
To all intents the fridge is working ok, light is on, door closes ok and you can hear it running. But I checked the cooling plate in the back today and it was covered in ice. Am I right in suspecting a faulty thermostat?
Cheers

Hi
Ice or frost .It should get a layer of frost then when the compressor shuts down it should then defrost the plate completely before starting up again.
Bananas should be at room temperature if yellow or chilled if green to stop them ripening and turning yellow.Mike

Hi Mike
We have kept bananas in the fridge for years but now they have obviously been frozen and are black and mushy toatallyuneatable. The other thing is the 15 degreeC swing in temperature, is that normal?

Mushy bannanas,20 sec’s in microwave,ice cream and honey 😀
Can you post them 😀
The temps on shelves will differ, put the sensor on the middle shelf half way back, would still expect an average of 4 c, sounds like the stat is becoming “lazy”,maybe worth fitting a new one.March 17, 2009 at 11:04 am #280488Whitespin

Hi Spimps
That with the bananas is mean with me being diabetic. Have put them in post will be there in about three weeks Enjoy!
Do you know if a universal stat will be ok?

You will need a ranco VT9 or a danfoss no3,would think they are available from UK whitegoods spares.Danfoss packaged have a diagram on the back which is helpful to DIY’s.
Soory I’m always putting my foot in it,my team (Lincoln City) were playing away from home with our reserve keeper in goal who to say the least was non convincing so,of course I had a few comments, towards the end of the game I commented that we would have to loan someone for the next match as the keeper clearly wasn’t up to it,the chap said “that’s my son” 😯 .
Wasn’t you was it?
Just of to watch Lincoln tonight so fingers crossed.
