We have a brand new Hotpoint HCIH50TI1WUK fridge/freezer and not sure whether this is a problem or not. Hotpoint have advised they can send an engineer out, but if there’s no fault, there’s a charge of £70! They cannot/will not give me any information as to how often the compressor should be running, or any technical information whatsoever.

We had a 14 year old Hotpoint Fridge Freezer, in our old house and even in the summer, the compressor wouldn’t be on most of the time. Nearly every time we go in to the kitchen, the compressor is running. Even first thing in the morning when it’s had all night to reach the desired temperature – incidently is 4 and -18.

    Any ideas please?

It’s frost free so it will run 80-90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the time it’s plugged into the wall.

Old non-frost free would only run, roughly, 50-70{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the time.

And being that new it may well have an inverter run linear compressor and they can run almost 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the time which, counterintuitively, is actually more economic in terms of power consumption.

Our old Hotpoint was frost free and wasn’t on as often. I don’t believe the new one is an inverter type either.

It’s so new I can’t see much info on it but, the general rule of thumb is, if it’s frost free it’ll run 80{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} or more of the time it’s plugged in and so long as it’s hitting temperature there won’t be a fault with it.
