Would really appreciate some help! My fridge freezer slowly started getting colder. I rang the hotpoint service centre and booked an engineer and at the same time got a years warranty as I have heard they go wrong quite a lot.

The engineer came out and said the appliance has a gas leak and that someone else would need to come and refill the gas and check the leak. That can’t be done until 10th Feb and even then they might say it can’t be fixed. The thing that really bothers me is that what if they fill it up and it slowly leaks again? It is only 18 months old and could have had this problem from the start. Can leaking gas really be fixed?

Basically i want to know whether I should cut my losses and cancel teh warranty (am within 14 days) and just buy a new appliance (not a hotpoint- recommendations welcome).

    Thanks

I’d hang in there its unusual to have a leak, but the insurance you have taken out is new for old so if it couldnt be repaired you would get anew one.

you will get your insurance money back but will not get a replacement if appliance written off as you have just taken out policy, good chance the leak will be detected, if it is a leak as your appliance should be getting warmer not colder if no gas

Oops I meant colder! It hasn’t been working at all for over week now. We won’t get a replacement as this incident caused me to take the insurance so is not covered.

By the time the next engineer comes out to fix it, or to say it can’t be fixed at all we will have been without a fridge for over a month, hence me wondering whether to cut my losses and just buy a new one. Having taken the insurance i feel my hands are tied
