ParticipantDear Engineers,
Can Fridge/Freezer Pcb control modules freeze (excuse the pun!!!).
On some motor vehicle EMU’s you can reset the module by shorting out the power input terminals.
Does something similiar apply to fridge/freezer control modules. I.e. can you reset the damn things. In particular I am referring to a Pcb C00219007 as used on the Hotpoint FFA70P fridge freezer.Any help much appreciated. Thank you.

I don’t do a lot of fridges etc but I cant think why you would need to do what you are describing
why? what fault do you hope to cure by doing this ?

If you turn the power off for 15 minutes then when you turn it back on if it has not reset then it will need the pcb to be configured or the pcb is faulty.
Hotpoint has the software to program the pcb and even if you purchase a new pcb that will have to be configured by Hotpoint.

Some Hotpoint modules are supplied unprogramed, as I found out several years back, you have to buy a card reader, software card and hotkey, the card is about a £10 but the other components cost more than the module you need.

I have fitted a new Pcb control module, the supplyer assures me it is configured.
Everything checks out.
Compressor runs independantly, Fan is OK, Diverter valve has continuity, Thermal fuse OK, Heater elements OK, all 4 thermistors are around 14 KOhms at 20degrees C. If I warm them they all reduce in Resistance type NTC, I have 240 Volts AC 50Hz onto the Pcb. But the green mains Led does not light up or any of the Red warning lights.
If i remove the 6 pins connector at the Thyristor end of the Pcb and reconnect, the Green Led mains on indicator and the Red defrost Led ‘blink’ and then stay off.
For some reason the Cpu does not latch the mains in to run the cooling parts.
Any ideas what the problem is pleaase.
Thank you for any help offered.

Err, that part number you have for the board… it’s not configured.
So unless whoever supplied it to you has set it up it for the specific model it’s about as useful as a chocolate fireguard, why we won’t sell unconfigured boards.
To program it, I think they’d need to plug it in and program it with keypresses I imagine.
I don’t think they’ll have done that as they’d need to plug it into the machine, assuming that they just happened to have a suitable donor one kicking about and unpacked that board, plugged it in, configured it, took it back out, repacked it and sent it to you. You can perhaps see why I don’t think they did all that.
It is programmed apparently but requires configuration and the instructions for that you will only get from Hotpoint, if they’ll give them to you.

TESTS TO BE CARRIED OUT AFTER REPLACING THE CONTROL MODULE
Connect the appliance to a power supply
Buttons must be pressed one at a time and in the following order to eliminate the individual
LEDs.
All LEDs are switched on
1. Press and release the Holiday button – Switches the Holiday LED off.
2. Press and release the Fast Freeze button – Switches the High Temperature Alarm and the Fast
Freeze LEDs off – see Note below.
3. Press and release the Food Defrost Alert button – Switches the Food Defrost Alert LED off.
NOTE: – The High Temperature LED will not be switched off if the evaporator is not colder than
-15°C.
Passed test reaction
If all buttons pressed are sensed (LEDs OFF), the appliance returns to normal operation.
Where an LED failed to be turned OFF further diagnosis will be required with that function or
functions. -
