HOTPOINT fridge rl64 stopped working

Hi,wondering if anyone could help. Basically Fridge has stopped working (around 5-6 years old), the light is on, doen’t sound like compressor or anything is running around back. however I was wondering if it could be caused by a broken thermostat, as I have read one or 2 articles on this. If it were the thermostat would I still here the compressor running?! Any advice would be grateful, as I think if its anything but thermostat I may as well buy a new fridge.

I`d almost put my wages on it being the thermostat.

Thanks for your very rapid response! do you think that I should here the compressor running if it is the thermo?

nope, you`ll hear nothing at all. but the light will work.

Cheers for your help, I think its prob worth giving a £20 part a go then, will let you know if it works.
