KeymasterDear Experts,
I have had the above mentioned fridge/freezer unit for about 10 years during which time it has worked well. Last week the red temperature warning light came on and it is still on. The freezer section is now warm to the touch. The fridge is cool (approx 8 Celsius) but not as cool as it was previously. I have removed all food contents and “defrosted” for 24 hours but this has had no noticeable effect. Do you have any ideas as to what might be causing this problem?
(Other info that might be relevant is: the unit is in a cool kitchen, fridge light still works, fridge still makes an intermittent quiet whirring noise as usual for a few minutes at a time but doesn’t seem to be making the intermittent muscular noise that it used to, drainage channel at back of fridge has a little water in it but drainage hole is clear and water seems to be draining off correctly, cooling plate at inside back of fridge is cold and has droplets of cold water and a little ice on it. A couple of months ago the unit developed the same problem but started functioning correctly after being switched off for a day.)
Thanks,

As this is a twin compressor unit the fridge and freezer are essentially two seperate appliances which is why the fridge is still operating.
The warmth in the freezer may be the defrost or drip tray heater staying on permanently caused by the defrost timer not running. This warmth is also causing the higher than normal emperatre in the fridge i would imagine.
Turn the freezer off by it’s thermostat and ask an engineer to have a look at it as it may well be a fairly straightforward repair.
Take a look at the direcories and repairs@ there should be someone there that can help.
Dave.

just a point worth mentioning
the freezer themostat located is at the base of rear of the unit
and is not obvious to see as there is no control knob. Make sure you disconnnect the electrcal supply before atttempting ti find it!
