ParticipantHello
Any help is most appreciated. My Hotpoint dishwasher has stopped working. After the wash cycle it stops and the prewash and wash lights flash. I read that the drain pump maybe blocked, i has since stripped out and check but no blockages. I was thinking it is now either the pump is knackered or it is not getting a supply to start.
Is there any way i can check or test the pump ?Many thanks David

Does it actually fail to drain?
Does the main circulation pump appear to be running, are the spray arms going round at the start of a programme?
The pumps don’t often fail electrically but do become worn if well used. A continuity/resistance test with a megger or multimeter would show if the motor was electrically faulty.
Can you hear the drain pump trying to run at the start of any cycle before the machine fills?
If it stays full of water have you tried leaving it for a few hours and then trying to get it to drain?
If your serial number is 60222.0001 or higher then the drain pump is wired in series with the main circulation pump, a failure of the main pump motor will prevent the drain pump from running.

Hello
Thanks for the reply. Yes it fails to drain and yes the main circulation pump is running. No i dont hear it running at the start of each cycle. I left it over night and tried it again without a wash tablet but it still fails to drain. The 1st and 2nd lights flash together and when you open the door there is a inch of water sitting in the base.
Thanks David

It really is time for the test equipment, first on the pump itself and then the wiring.

HelloQuick update, striped the pump out again and put 240v on to it and it ran no problems but after turning off and on again the pump stalled. After opening it up further i found the o rings on the inside had been passing and behind it was all gunged up. So cleaned and replaced o rings rebuilt and job done. Thanks for your help.
