ParticipantGood evening all,
Has anyone experienced the above tumble dryer’s drive belt chafing on the plastic housing on the left hand lower side, below the drum?
I’ve replaced the belt and jockey wheel today, as the belt had frayed and had given up rotating the drum.
Evidently, the belt has been replaced twice by a local company in the last year or so; the one I replaced today had only been fitted a few weeks ago.
I think the fraying was caused by a damaged jockey pulley wheel (due to previous fitting of the belt!) which was broken and rough on it’s edges.
However, it is clear to see the belt is also rubbing on the housing, as mentioned, and I don’t wish for the new belt to break again!
The chafing isn’t “heavy,” but it’s noticeable that it has worn a minor groove in the housing, which is secure and looks aligned.

ParticipantThanks Dave,
Perhaps I should cut out/file the plastic housing, as I fear the belt will fail again?

ModeratorJust a thought is the belt tensioned right on the pulley as if its the wrong way on the pulley I’ve had this happen not on this model though

ParticipantYes it might sound daft but are you sure the belt is on right with it running with the BACK of the belt against the pulley.

ParticipantAgreed, sounds like the pulley is forcing the belt onto the chassis. See the Hotpoint drawing at https://parts.hotpoint.co.uk/drawings/gif/07535-25.p.gif

ParticipantQuite right chaps!
Revisited, and the belt was indeed fitted incorrectly around the jockey pulley wheel.
Refitted correct way, and all fine.
Wondering if customer should contact the company who have fitted, and caused belt to break twice??

Moderatorhere is us looking for the answer and trying to think why, when all the time ignoring the numbskull effect of previous engineers
you may well not get any joy contacting the last engineer but a bad review can work wonders and give you so much satisfaction
