Now how can Hotpoint (Merloni) price the cost of many of their spare parts 😕 . I firmly believe someone just ‘dreams up’ a resale price that it cannot surely justify in order to maximise profits for their shareholders.
Here are just two examples to emphasise my point : 1603030 Hinge Bearing Set (retails @ £2.50, trade price around £2.03) and 2601464 Freezer Inner Door Flap Hinge (retails @ £2.96, trade price around £2.60)
Now these are just small bit of moulded plastic weighing around 15 grams at best, cost to produce possibly 5p a 1,000 I would think? A mark-up of around 5000{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} very likely. Nice little earner Hotpoint and no mistake 8)
Now at the same wholesaler that passes on these amazing Hotpoint (Merloni) ‘bargains’ they sell to the trade a 4 Gang Extension Lead rated at 13 amps complete with no less the 2 metres of 13amp flex and plugtop, a bargain at just £1.99. Just sit back and take that in for a moment…….A hell of a lot of hardware, moulded plastic, brass contacts and precious copper wire….all in for just £1.99! The raw material cost alone must be 100 times greater.
It must be a ‘lost leader’ for the wholesaler I guess to put these out at this price in the hope they will sell loads of Hotpoint Plastic Hinges in return…….but what’s Hotpoints excuse I wonder ❓
Perhaps the Office of Fair Trading have an explanation!
