Had the appliance for 16 months. It used to make a loud ‘cracking’ noise intermittently. We ignored this as we assumed this was expantion / contraction etc. but not sure now.
Two days ago all three lights at the top of the panel were flashing and the freezer was not working. We re-booted the fridge freezer and then after about 5 hours the alarm set off again and the appliance had failed to freeze. Not long after the fridge failed to work. We tried to re-boot it several times to no avail.
The fans appear to be working; there was no build up of ice anywhere. Where do we go from here? 😡
Yes, the cracking is expansion noises and most likely completely unrelated.
The other issue is one of not cooling which could be down to a number of reasons and would require a bit of fault diagnosis.
If the fans are running then it is possibly a refrigerant system failure of some sort or, it could be electronic as I think these newer Hotpoint’s all use thermistors.
you most likely find the freezer evaporator is frozen solid preventing airflow, quite common on these, possible defrost heater failure or sensor issue, best way to confirm is to remove the multi flow panel at the rear of the freezer and defrost with a steamer, then test the heaters with a meter. you could also fully defrost it manually but you would have to leave it unplugged with the doors open for a few days.
