The freezer is 5 years old – we love it, it suits our needs perfectly. However it has developed a fault in the past week or so. It may be totally unrelated, but just before the fault appeared we had a couple of power issues to the premises that caused PC’s to switch off even though nothing else was affected.

The problem is that the red “warning” light comes on (door is closed etc.) and the freezer is quite silent as though not even trying to chill. If left the red light eventually flashes. Power off and on again, red warning disappears, noise restarts etc. Press the “quick freeze” button (which runs for 24 hours) and you will not see the red light for a couple of days.

Looks to me like some logic board is failing?? My question is whether this can be economically repaired, either by myself or someone local (I live in Carlisle). As expected Hotpoint were no use (no advice, call out charge ~£100 + parts + labour + VAT – ie get a new one!).
