About a year ago or so, our freezer stopped freezing. Got the man in right at the end of the 5 year warranty and he found the bottom of the compartment and behind the back panel all iced up. Cleared it out and it was Ok. I bought another year’s old for new warranty, and sure enough 6 months later it did the same again. They claimed not a major problem, so no new freezer, just another hairdryer job to defrost.

Now it’s out of warranty and it’s done it again. This time i defrosted it myself – back panel out, melt ice, clear drain and reassemble – fine, except now. after an hour or two the fan seems to be catching. I can loosen the screws and nudge the panel an it’s ok, but again some hours later it will start catching again. Sounds bad but I think it’s only catching lightly.

Any idea how I can cure this please?

Well a year on and the drain blocked again, so same procedure as above, and same end result – fan’s binding again against the back ventilation panel. Can’t remember how I cured it last time. There must be a way to refit the panel right first time, as aligning it and tightening the screws doesn’t work!

    Thanks, Iain

OK – if anyone else has this problem, this seems to be the answer. I think the problem is the back panel expanding when it warms up after removal whilst you de-ice behind it. If you screw it tight straight away, the fan catches in the hole in the rear of the panel. Put the panel back inside, but not right back. Turn on the freezer and allow to cool down for say 15 mins. Then refit the panel properly and secure with the 4 screws. Worked for me.
