ParticipantWe took delivery of a new Hotpoint FZM34 Frost Free Freezer on Thursday afternoon. Also purchased a Hotpoint RLM36 fridge to go with it. After being switched on for 8 hours (yes I know you are supposed to leave 24 hours) the water we put in the covered ice cube tray had not even began to start icing, plus all my bread and other food stuff that I put in the top drawer was starting to defrost.
When I got up the next morning, the freezer had now been on coldest setting and fast freeze for 14 hours and still water in ice cube tray had no traces of starting to ice. Phoned Hotpoint at 8.00am and they said we had not left it long enough. Came home from work 6pm Friday, freezer on now for 26 hours and still the same 😡 Phoned Hotpoint again and they arranged for engineer to call yesterday (Sat) Engineer checked and said he thought it was the gasses and it would need re-gassed 👿 It couldn’t be booked it until 27th September. The engineer recommended we run down the freezer and switch it off as it will be costing a fair bit in electricity. 👿 👿
The middle and bottom drawer seem to be OK when it is on fast freeze. Soon as you switch fast freeze off you can feel the food starting to thaw after a couple of hours.
I am at my wits end with this now. Not what I expected with a brand new product. I had to wait in all day yesterday, now we will have to take another day off on 27th. In the meantime what about my food in the freezer?? I don’t have another freezer, my old one has gone. I am furious re this. I have always bought Hotpoint products all my life and never had a problem.
The fridge and freezer were purchased from an excellent on line retailler whom we have bought products from in the past. It was delivered direct from Hotpoint and not the retailler. The engineer kind of made a suggestion as to “well this is the problem when you buy on line” What difference does that make?? No difference if we had bought from Curry’s or On line, the freezer is faulty.
Please please please can somebody help me what I should do next? Also does anyone have a contact for a senior person in Hotpoint I can direct my complaint to. I was on hold on their expensive 10 a minute 0870 number for 22 mins on Friday before someone answered!

compresors contain a motor which needs to be lubricated, this may have not had time to settle after transporting, and created a partial blockage which is the reason all manufacture recommend 24hrs before switching on.

Although you may have commited yourself to a repair having admitted you have not followed manufacturers instructions.c2lass wrote:

Whitevanman, thanks for taking the time to reply. I did actually follow the manufacturers instructions which is a step by step guide and said to move the product to its place, leave for 15 minutes then switch on. The 24 hours is if you are putting fresh food into the freezer.
I also emailled the website where we purchased the fridge and freezer and their business hours are Mon- Fri so no doubt I will hear from them tomorrow.
Thanks anyway even though after all my thorough research on models, I have obviously chosen the wrong make 😥
