Hotpoint HCA391FFK – Freezer cold, Fridge struggling

Hi,

We have a Hotpoint HCA391FFK fridge freezer that is having trouble keeping the fridge part cold enough. Even with the stat set to ‘Super’ – it can barely manage +7 deg C in the fridge. The top of the freezer is currently reading -18.5 dec C (again with the stat on ‘Super’).

It used to make quite a noise, gurgling away and whistling noises – which I thought at the time seemed a bit excessive, but now it’s virtually silent. I can’t remember the last time I heard it. The only times I’ve heard the compressor start, it seems to stop a few seconds later – though that doesn’t really match with the fact that the freezer seems to be fine.

Anyone got any guesses as to what might be the problem ?

Hi Kev,

I’m not familiar with the model, so bear with me please.

If the machine is struggling to reach temp then the chances are that it is either a weak compressor or possibly a control fault, as in this would encompass the electronics, PCB, thermistors/stat etc. But, without the machine in front of me, it is very hard to hazard a guess although from the description I’d be enticed toward the former.

Hopefully someone with more experience of the machine will be able to offer more information.
