Our HotPoint dishasher frequently (but not always) stops during the wash cycle at various times. A beep sounds and the washing stops and the water doesn’t drain until the door is opened and I press the start button again. Sometimes pressing the start button doesn’t work.
We always use the 30 min cycle and occassionally, the washing never stops until the machine is switched off.
I used to think it was a lack of salt as refilling it seemed to work, but that’s not the case as the salt level indicator isn’t lit.
Any ideas what could be wrong?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

most of these machine have fault codes which show by various lights being on

we would need to see which lights are on or flashing at the time of failure to see if the machine has detected a fault

I’ll get a picture of the lights and post them the next time it happens. Thanks a lot for the reply.

there is a size restricion for pics so if its too big you will have to host it on another server and post a public link

Typical, the fault hasn’t happened in the last 3 washes. I’ll get the photo as soon as it happens.

    Hi Dave,
I’m an absolute beginner at this. How can I check the heater?

you need to have a multi meter and understand how to do resistance tests

you need to find the main motor in the appliance and the heater is at the front of it. you need to disconnect the heater and measure the heater resistance with the meter. if its ok you will get a low reading under 100 ohms if its gone you will got no reading at all on as low scale
