    Hi

I would appreciate some advice with a new (bought in September 2020) dishwasher I have. Since I first used it the salt indicator light comes on at the end of every cycle, regardless of how full the salt container is. I have been in an ongoing discussion with Hotpoint about it, I have had two engineers come out to look at it. The second engineer updated the software but this has not solved the issue. I do get limescale on glasses at the end of the wash. I would like to sell it as I don’t like the design anyway but I don’t think I can do this without explaining the problem and I don’t think anyone would buy it, knowing the issue.

I use Bio-D dishwasher powder and rinse-aid and Sodasan salt. The salt does go down and I have refilled it a few times since I’ve had it. The engineer has told me that I need to try different products to find a solution that will remove limescale, but I trust this brand.

Hotpoint are saying that if the salt was low then the light would be on all the time and not just at the end of the cycle. However this is not how the rinse-aid light works, it comes on at the end of the cycle if I need to refill it.

I also have a problem with bits of dirt (usually coffee granules) welded to glasses I put in the top left hand side of the machine (it is only items placed in this location specifically). This is intermittent. I don’t think I am overloading it. The engineer says I need to clean the filters more thoroughly, which I am attempting, but I don’t think they are that bad. I accept it may just be my issue, but I did not experience any of these problems with my previous machine, which I was able to load with more stuff.

I want to know if I should just accept Hotpoint’s analysis, or keep fighting with them to get it replaced under guarantee (which is hugely stressful). At the moment the machine is just about usable, but I am not getting the results I would expect and I have to check everything after each wash.

I am grateful for any advice.
    Thanks,
    Steve

there is a service bullitin about faulty salt light issued august last year. if fitted with a certain softener the light will stay on

the fix is to replace a board on the softner to a modified one

Fault description states “missing salt led stays on even if customer properly filed salt and water inside softner”

i assume any hotpoint engineer should have checked if yours had this fault or not

    Hi Dave
Thanks for the response, I knew someone would know what’s going on. Hotpoint’s attitude is that the machine is working so they don’t care about anything else. Could you point me to this information, I presume it is publicly available?

    Cheers,
    Steve

thats the problem its not available to the public and i should not have it really. they tend to be secretive about these things

what it boils down to is on certain softner units the board that senses the salt is not up to the job. The engineer has to check if its one thats covered and replace the board with a modified one

I would have assumed Hotpoint engineers should have looked up the known fault problems for your machine and seen this especially since you have had more than 1 engineer

also they did say the salt light would never go out and i could not se how it will if the board says no salt the light should stay lit

If your have washing problems i would try different products to see if it helps. i would try one of the main manufacturers products to see if things improve

    Dave
