Hotpoint HUE61KS fan not turning off when door is opened

Just taken delivery of a new Hotpoint HUE61KS freestanding oven.

In the manual it says the main oven fan will turn off when the door is opened as a safety device, this doesn’t happen when i open the door it keeps spinning at full speed.

Is the manual wrong or is my new oven fault? I have contacted hotpoint via their web link but no reply yet so thought i would try here too.

The door switch on the right hand side probably sticking. Press it in and out a couple of times may do the trick. It’s Sunday by the way and with the best will in the world Hotpoint’s email support staff have the weekend off! 😉

Thanks for the reply.

I guess the switch must be hidden inside the door as there is nothing to stick out.

Am i right in thinking all modern ovens will have a safety cut off switch like the manual says which will cut off the fan and element when the door is opened?

Guess i will have to call them up if i can’t easily fix this myself.

That’s odd as the user booklet shows a Door Switch 😕

A good many free standing type cookers like yours do have that system yes.

Here is a photo of what i am seeing, i am a bit concerned there appears to be a blanking pin above the latch! Any thoughts?

Now i am not happy, i have just checked a photo of it from the website and it has the safety switch protruding out and mine only has a blanking cap!

to be honest it not safety otherwise all ovens would have it and they would lock the door. It more about not blowing all the heat out

Tried to phone them but the options on the phone didn’t give me the option to speak to someone about the problem, dropped them a message on Twitter and also had a moan to the place where i bought it from, just need to wait for a response before i decide what to do next.

This is where i bought it from but the photo i have is the same oven but in white, which you can see the switch if zoomed in.

I am in contact with Hotpoint on Twitter and they asked the same question although they did say my model hasnt got a switch even though that pic has as well as the manual saying it has, will let you know what happens.

That link takes you to a discontinued product presumably as the description of colour does not match the image. The new link for that is this one which has been corrected but with the same imagery.

On the Hotpoint website which is always the first choice of reference the four colours are here show a complete set of different images. Now this is where it gets a little tricky for retailers, if the manufacturer changes the specification or images they do not have to tell anyone. From the literature I have in store;

” Hotpoint reserve the right to alter specifications. To confirm that the specification and / or functions required are still current on the selected model, please call our product information team on 03448 111009″.

Also to confirm that I have three colour variants of that machine in stock on the shop floor and none have the switch in question on them.

So, yes the spec has been changed, no the retailer has probably not been made aware of the change which is why the images are the same, the new images and spec by Hotpoint make no reference to the switch.

If you feel this is something you can’t live with then you need to contact Boots in the first instance.

It is something i can live with to be honest, but if Boots or Hotpoint ever offer a free upgrade to something with a switch i probably wouldn’t say no! haha 🙂
