ParticipantHi
Hoping someone can give some advice, we received a new Hotpoint HUI62TP a month ago which is fitted fine.
But the manual specifically states that there is a supplied safety chain that must be used, and shows it connected via a bracket at the back of the cooker.
There was no safety chain or bracket included, and Hotpoint themselves seem unsure if there is meant to be one.
We’ve called them five times now to be told.
Yes the chain and bracket should be there, we’ll order it for you.
No the chain is supplied by the fitter.
Yes the chain and bracket should definitely be there, but I can’t see it having been ordered for you, I’ll order it again.
No the chain is supplied by the fitter.
“Yes I can see the bracket and chain are meant to be there, but I can’t see the part number, it looks like it’s been ordered twice for you” – goes away to see what the delay is and comes back “it’s not there due to EU rules regarding fitting”.The last one rings my “fobbing off” meter (any time I get quoted “EU rules” as the reason it rings a bell), as the manual shows a very specific way to fit the chain, that cannot be accomplished without the bracket.
I’ve been told that the common way now is to fit a chain to a screw at the rear of the cookers, but the manual is very insistent that the chain is supplied, shows that it should connect to a bracket, and there are obvious mounting points for such brackets on the cooker.
The only two screws on the top of the cooker that might possibly be suitable for a chain are more like spacers and don’t appear to have the strength behind them for taking any load (they hold the hob top to the cooker body).
I’m tended to think that if the chain and brackets to connect it to the cooker are no longer supplied, that there should have been an errata included with the manual to specify that.
Could anyone advise?

Hi
No other Hotpoint cooker comes with a chain. I think maybe that they are now marketing across the EU where chains in some countries are required Also printing one set of instructions is cheaper than printing for each country.
Or it could be that the manufacturers have changed the spec as they are allowed to do by way of the usual disclaimer ie we reserve the right to change or amend specification without prior notification etc…
There is no chain listed on the parts explosion either which is probably why Hotpoint are unable to obtain for you. That said I see some Beko electric cookers are fitted with a chain nowadays but these are light and flimsy cookers so I can see the logic there.
Your Hotpoint is a reasonably heavy cooker so I wouldn’t worry about it. If you really want to chain it I would check with Hotpoint first so as not to cause any problem with guarantees etc.

Cheers for the reply Don, that sounds reasonable 🙂
It just threw me that the instructions were so specific about the requirement for a chain (I think they spent as much space, if not more on that than the electrical specifications), then the confused replies from Hotpoint themselves.
