    Hi,

My Hotpoint HVF344 washing machine has had a flashing display for a couple of weeks. When the screen flashes, the machine itself ‘stutters’ while water is entering the machine for example. All lights flash on and off except the door lock key symbol. The fault appears to only happen on certain washes, on D for example but not on K etc. The fault code F-12 has also been popping up at times.

is there a problem with the dial with which I choose which wash cycle I need?

I have checked for blockages and have found none, and the machine is working fine on some washes.

    Thanks for your help!

F12 is a communication error. You need to remove the mains plug and check the wiring connection plugs between the facia PCB and the power PCB in the base. Squeeze them a little to get a better contact.

    Hi iadom,

I have checked the connections of all the plugs I can see going into the board in the back of the machine and the board behind the display and they all seem to be firmly connected.

It seems strange that it is working fine on some settings though?

    Thanks,

There is nothing ‘strange’ about Indesit appliances, unreliable, very suspect electronics, wiring, etc. :rolls:

If the connections are as tight as possible and there is no break in any cables then pcb failure is likely. 😥

Thanks for that, is it likely that the PCB behind the display is at fault rather than the main one at the back of the machine? How hard are they to fix/replace?

Could be either, facia pcb an easy change and around £45. Main pcb around £103 but it has to be programmed, for that you need a £20 smart card and a £100 card reader. 😥

Thanks, is there any way to find out which it is without replacing one? Where is the best place to source a facia pcb?

1.Not that I am aware of.

    2. Direct from Hotpoint/Indesit online spares best option, a lot of online retailers will take your money before informing you that it is not in stock.

You have squeezed up the connector blocks between both boards haven’t you?

My Hotpoint HVF-344 started behaving in the same way!

After extensive googling I found this video:
    https://www.how-to-repair.com/help/wash … sit-creda/

While the symptoms are not exactly the same I felt this was a solution worth exploring.

I unplugged the washing machine checked all the connections to the PCB, this did not solve the problem. After this I removed the control PCB at the back of the washing machine. The head of capacitor C17 was bulged, as described and shown in the video.

I ordered a replacement on eBay, although you could probably get the component from Maplin.

    The capacitor I removed:
    680 ?F 10V

    I replaced this with:
    680 ?F 25V

Replacing the C17 capacitor resolved the problem with my washing machine.

If you are comfortable soldering, this is an easy fix!
If you are not comfortable soldering, but you identify the capacitor as bulged and in need of replacement, I suggest you take the PCB to an electrical repair shop. This should be much cheaper than replacing the washing machine.
