    Hi,

I have a Hotpoint Iced Diamond freezer RZ64S – under-work surface type, purchased quite a while back – possibly 10 years. Recently, I’ve noticed a little red light on the panel at the top, and when I open the door there’s a weird smell that reminds me of TCP! At first I thought it was wafting over the top from the back, but it now seems to be coming from inside the freezer itself. (I only smell it strongly when I open the door.)

It’s been like this for a couple of weeks now, but the food doesn’t seem to have defrosted. (Ice cubes remain solid, for instance!)

The only other info I can give you is that there was quite a serious spillage in my kitchen a year ago (a blocked waste-water pipe that was being pressure-flushed backed up – black sludge all over the floor!) But this smell/red light seems to have coincided with me spilling a jug of water on the work surface. I can’t say for sure whether any went down the back of the freezer – while the water didn’t reach the back of the work surface, the front of the freezer got a soaking so some may well have trickled over the top of it and down the back.

Any thoughts? Is it broken/on its way out and, if so, what would be my best bet? Is it reaching the end of its “natural life” anyway?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Yes it is getting to the end of its life I would think and probably not worth spending money on.

Worth pulling it out though and seeing if there’s anything obvious causing the smell.

    K.
