ParticipantHi All
I was asked to attend to an Indesit IS70CUK tumble dryer that had a bad burning smell, this machine supposedly had the modification carried out exactly 1 month ago (I have seen the paperwork that the “engineer” left after they did it), the paperwork states that the machine had the rear panel replaced and rivet fitted but I am not entirely convinced.
When I opened the machine up I found a large lump of lint sat on the heating element with no other signs of burning anywhere, the machine definitely has the pop rivet in the back of the drum and the green sticker on the back panel but I am not convinced that the back panel has been changed as it seemed to be too dirty for a month old (this is a well kept machine in a clean house) with too much lint on the rear seal, also the time stated on the paperwork was only 27 minutes during which they would have to unwired it from the wall (it is hard wired into a connection unit) as well as it taking a couple of minutes to get it into and out of its corner behind the door (the radiator has to be lifted from its bracket to do it – thankfully it is on a longish length of flexi pipe), they also spent several minutes washing the condenser with a hose.
The paperwork states that part no C00378867 is the panel that was fitted, the images for this panel on the suppliers show no vent holes on it at all whereas the one on the machine appears to have all of the origanol vent holes. Can any one tell me exactly what the change is to the back panel and if it is the same change on all the machines, I also understand that some machines may need other bits changing. Can anyone send me a copy of the service bulletin etc of this modification as I am trying to keep an eye out on any of the machines that I come across to check that they have been done or are booked to be done as well as being able to tell if they have been done correctly should I have to work on one.
Thank you
Jem

It has already been reported in other posts of forum members attending machines that have allegedly had the mod done, in less than 15 minutes in one instance. 🙁

That is one of the things that makes me suspicious which is why I want to be able to identify correctly and incorrectly modified machines.

Did the drum in the machine have the old flat backed drum or the one with the bevelled edge at the back?
If it has the old flat rear edged drum then that back panel should not be fitted without also changing the drum.

easiest way to tell is by the foam seal that is stuck to back panel, an old foam seal will be blue in colour with a white felt face, the new back panel will have a black foam seal with a white felt face.
