    about 2 years old now the dw has packed in!
    I was in the kitchen when i heard a BANG. It had tripped the main fuse at the consumer unit ( overload NOT RCD). Tripped right at the start of its cycle maybe 2 mins into it. The dw now powers up but is stuck on cycle 2. The light is held in this possition and not flashing.

    Any ideas? Thanks

    The only way to find out is to remove the mains plug and carry out a visual inspection, if that fails then a megger or multimeter will be required to test the appliance.

    Its 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} Indesit so is of rather poor construction, the wiring in the door is very weak, the main PCB in the base fails quite often as does the heater and main circulation pump.
