ParticipantHello,
We have a Hotpoint LFT114 integrated dishwasher that came with our house and is probably about 12 years old. Additional information in case it’s relevant – the main control panel was replaced by a Hotpoint-approved engineer approximately 18 months ago.
Now as of a few days ago it turns on with no problem at all, but then seems not to register the fact that we have closed the door, so the wash cycle will not start. At the point that we open the door, it then trips the electrics *fun*. We can’t run a test cycle on it to try and get an error code, because the test cycle won’t start because it doesn’t register that the door is closed. And then we open the door again to see what’s going on and the electrics trip again (unless we unplug it first, but that defeats the point of needing to see what LEDs are flashing).
Our initial research indicated that the most likely culprit was a faulty door catch/microswitch, and seeing as we could source a new one for a tenner we tried it, but the fault is exactly the same. Next port of call seems to be possibly the wiring to the door catch, but that’s a bit more expensive to get a replacement without knowing for sure that it’s the real problem.
Does this seem likely to be the door wiring? Are there any other possibilities? Or is it time to look for a new dishwasher, all other factors considered? Usually we’d get someone out to look but obviously that’s not practical at the moment under lockdown.
Thanks in advance.

ParticipantThanks Dave. Would that be the heater as referenced in this thread here?:

(Just so I know we’re talking about the same bit.)
Would a fault with the heater cause the electrics to trip *only* at the point of opening the door? Because that’s what’s happening.
Looking at the price of a replacement heater, the faff of accessing it, and the age of the dishwasher, I’m beginning to think it might be new-dishwasher time!April 28, 2020 at 6:23 pm #468327electrofix
Moderatoryes thats the part
the heater is the most likley thing to cause tripping but not the only thing
whats happening is the trip senses earth faults in electrical appliances
first thing i would do is disconnect the heater and see if it still trips

ParticipantThanks Dave, we’ll have a look. (Or maybe just wait until lockdown’s over and we can get someone in who’s a bit more savvy with these things.)
