Hi, I have an 8 year old Hotpoint Mistral FF72P.

The unit makes no unusual noises and the temperature remains constant at -21 for the freezer and +5 for the fridge. I replaced the freezer thermistor (with the help of this site – thanks) about a year ago following a temperature fault.

My new problem is that the fridge trips the house ECB after being on for 12hrs +. I have to unplug the unit to reset the ECB. The ECB trips immediately if the unit remains plugged in and switched on, however, after a period of a few hours, the fridge can be plugged in and used without tripping…..until 12 or so hours have passed and the ECB trips again!

(The unit is now unplugged and not being used.)

    Any ideas guys?

    Thanks.

    A new development…

I’ve cleaned the 8 years worth of dust from the internal gubbins of the fridge. (Behind the fan and around the cooling fins etc.)

I now have an error code of EA on the console.

I’ve taken the auto duct apart that channels cold air from the freezer to fridge and I’m beginning to suspect that the stepper motor which controls the flap has an intermittant fault, or short, leading to the unit tripping the house RCB.

    Any ideas?

the freezer evapourator has a defrost element (frost free) which comes on after a period of time , this may be the original cause of fault.

in relation to ea you may have knocked the conections if you have been tinkering around at the roof of the fridge. just a thought

Thanks – absolutely right on both counts!

Here’s the deal….I opened up the panel in the freezer and the defrost evapourator (the little white element on the back of the aluminium sheet) had a brown bubble in it, (burnt out) which was shorting to earth – the aluminim panel.

I’ve disconnected the element and the unit is working ok now. Though not defrosting the freezer.

I’ve got a pro coming round to put it all right later in the week.

    Thanks!
