Mistral FF80P, purchased Jan 1997, without problems until last week.
Common problem, freezer fine, fridge @+20 deg!
Read through forum, replaced evaporator thermistor, switched on, freezer cooled rapidly to about -16 deg but fan still not working.
Had already checked door switch / light working.
    Have never had over-icing problem.

Disconnected fan and applied power to it, independent of FF80, and it worked for a few secs then blew the 3 amp fuse in my made up mains cable.
Reconnected everything and switched on fridge/freezer and it still works.

Took out fan and checked it and it’s totally dead.

So I definitely need a new fan. Is it likely that the fan was therefore dodgy and was the real cause of the problem? Elsewhere in the forum it is stated that a faulty fan also causes the warm fridge problem.

Please advise how to order a new fan and how much.
    Love the forum!
    Regards

Re: Hotpoint Mistral FF80P Freezer Fan

I had similar problem with hotpoint mistral FF92P fridge freezer. Freeze fan stops after few seconds, infact sometimes it starts and stops few times, but does not run for longer due to which it is not able to cool fridge portion. To make fan running I have disconnected yellow(evaporator thermistor). It has fixed the problem i.e. now fridge also gets cool, but my question is what was the role of yellow thermistor and have I done something which can cause safety issues?
    Thanks

Re: Hotpoint Mistral FF80P Freezer Fan

Changing the way an appliance is designed to run always carries a danger, difficult to say quite what but certainly not adviseable in any way.
I think the yellow thermistor controls the termination of the defrost ie senses when the optimum temperature has been reached to ensure evaporator is clear of frost, possibly 18-20c.
The pcb control will automatically have gone onto a set number of timed defrosts per day as it does when the thermistor fails, with better models it shows an error code, not all have this facility.
You can purchase a replacement quite cheaply on this site spares section.
