ParticipantPlease can you help me – the fridge is not working.
This has happened before, the cure being to defrost then turn back on after 48hrs.
This time I have turned it off for days, taken the back cover out of the freezer and cleaned the area.
Just turned it back on and the fan id not turning, is this normal?
The freezer has gone from +24 to +9 in minutes, whereas the fridge remains at +24. There does seem to be a humming sound!
I have read the thermistor may be broken, where is it?
I am practical so can replace parts, but unsure where certain parts are!
Please can you help.

It’s possible the fan motor is zapped as well.
Less common than the thermistors in those units but it does happen. You’d have to check it out but, does the fan turn by hand as in, there’s nothing blocking it or it’s not seized up.

Many thanks for the reply, the fan turns/spins freely.
Should it turn the moment the power is turned on continuously?
Cheers

“The Fridge” sounds like a frost free type.
Fans dont start until evaporator temp is aroun -12ish so no cold air blown around freezer or fridge until that is acheived, could be 15 minutes depending on room etc.
Model numbers etc are helpful.

Topic merged.
It saves confusion when you stick to one problem, one thread.

Yes it is the Frost Free, thank you for the tip on the fan, I willturn it on shortly for at least an hour. Does the fan come on all the time when evap temp is -12 deg?
If the fridge does not work after an hour or so, I think it is time to have a stab at something, what is the first item to replace.
Just looked for the model no. Where is it?

On the rating plate inside the fridge.
Randomly changing parts is a phenomena that we refer to as “Parts Bingo” and is ill advised at best. You’d often be cheaper just to get someone to look at it for you if that’s where you are with it.

Turned power on and freezer is -18, but the fan is not working.
Should it work all the time below -12?
Cheers

Personally, I don’t know on Hotpoint but usually they will cycle and only kick in as required. If it has reached temperature it will stop running.

K, thank you for your valuable input, i can remove the fan and test it. if it is working then fine, i will have to move onto something else.
i read about the thermistor, is this under the fan? what does it actually do?
i presume i can test it on a multimeter.
cheers
