Hotpoint Mistral not the usual fault?

Hello, I have an issue with my fridge freezer. have looked over many sites and forums and all the issues I’ve seen don’t quite match up to my problem.

Hotpoint Mistal FF72N
Fridge and freezer not cooling. Both thermistors replaced but no difference. No error codes displayed. Fan at base working continuously, fan above evaporator does not come on unless yellow thermistor connection is removed. Unit ‘hums’ like normal. Condensor is getting warm. No ice build up anywhere and all dust removed from base outlet. Not sure if related but found a rubber insulation block shaped for a pipe at the bottom rear near condenser, placed back where I think it would go but no difference. Anybody know where it is meant to go or if its important?

Am wondering if its time to give up and just buy a new one but the stubborn part of me would like to know whats wrong before I chuck in the towel.

Sounds like you have a lack of refrigerant in the system or a compressor failure. Have you down a pressure test on the system ? The fans will not come on until the evaporator plate gets cold, this is to stop the fan blowing warm air onto the frozen food after going through a defrost cycle. Regards Neil

Makes sense nut getting a bit beyond my experience but if I get hold of a gauge and remove the compressor I could give that a go. Do you know how much pressure the compressor should kick out?

if you can get hold of a set of gauges and piercing pliers you need to cut into the suction side, the short stubby one that is used to gas the fridge up, it should be a plus pressure such +5psi not a negative pressure, if the pressure is high that either means you have a blockage, or the compressor is knackered Regards Neil
