Hotpoint Mistral Plus 8596 freezer stuck on -9C – fridge +12

I did some searches, but have not seen anything quite like this.

Mistral Plus 8596.
Freezer stuck on -9. Fridge on about +12.
Fan in freezer working (I can hear it).
Fan at rear spinning and cooling (I can see it)
Compressor isn’t too hot (I can touch it).
Cleaned out all the fluff front and rear (there wasn’t that much to start with, but it is cleaner now).
Defrosted the thing overnight (there was not much ice behind the panel in the freezer).

Any ideas here? Could it be the thermistors? The symptoms i’ve seen suggest not, but i’m open to ideas 🙂

It is slowly going down – but I mean slowly. At -14 now. It never used to take this long to come to temperature.

I should probably buy a new fridge! This one is getting old.

I’d try the evaporater thermister. Make sure door switch is engaging on fridge

In the end it came right – but it look over 12 hours to come back to ‘normal’ temperatures. It used to just take a few hours.

My suspicion is that this is just due to the age of this unit – over 15 years old. Maybe it needs re-gassing, or the compressor is not as effective as it used to me?
