Hotpoint WD440P (date code 49) and the one shot has gone on the dryer box. The reason for it’s failure was established as being due to a frozen water inlet valve. Machine in unheated out-house and froze solid 2 weeks back in fact. During that time customer put on dryer with obvious results.

Anyway, having explained that bit to you, I went to fit a new one-shot and the bl**dy heater screw has rusted away and I can’t access the darn thing.

Does it mean I’ve got to fit a new heater top box or can I tack a microtemp type onto the top of the box instead I wonder? 😕 I think a 160 deg microtemp might just be a get out of jail card, what do you reckon? 😉

I try best to avoid Hotpoint machines and with good reason is seems. Looking at the design of this dryer system and I think it must have been designed by Amani and put together by Fiat? The rusted screw heads remind me of burnt olives served up by Pizza Express……mama mia!

Just fit the, latest, complete box. You will only be back if you change the one shot!

Also if you do a modification to it and it goes up in smoke……………

    Thats what I reckon anyway.

I didn’t think that they did a complete box any more, I thought you had to order all the separate bits?….What’s the part number of the unit…please Tim?

Not sure what you mean by heater screw?
If you take the old cut out out of its protective sleeve you should be able to read off the temperature rating on its body or from the end cap colour.

I think Martin means the single screw that secures the heater to the top of the heater box, you have to remove the heater and the baffle plate before you can get at the TOC screws. They were like this for a couple of years, now superceded by the sleeved microtemp clamped to the top of the heater box, just like the Indesit used to have.

Why doesn’t he just drill the screw(s) out? I remember now, that’s the Bleckmann heater, right?

I would really like to meet the designer who attatched that toc from INSIDE the heater box…. 😈
