The element on my Hotpoint EW73P blew, tripping the house fuse. After getting the power back on, the timer display flashes and nothing works until you set the time. At that point of pressing the buttons to set the time the oven light comes on despite the dial switched being off, but as the element had blown, no heat was generated.

I replaced the element, and the light is still on but it now the element heats up and cannot be switched off without turning the whole cooker off. The oven light and fan stay off until the oven dial is turned on.

Evidently something else is faulty so I’m looking for suggestions

When the element blew the trip it likely as not took out the oven thermostat with it.

Thanks for the reply. Would the thermostat come into play with the oven control switched off?

The oven control switch is what I refer to.
