The fan for the top oven on our Hotpoint EW84 has recently started behaving strangely. Sometimes it switches itself on when the top oven, or grill haven’t been used and on other occasions it remains running for an hour or more after the oven has been used. The problem can be remedied by switching the oven off and on at the cooker switch on the wall. Could anyone suggest which component is likely to be faulty. Many thanks

since this unit has an electronic board that is programmed and can only be changed by someone with the gear to pogramme it, then you may have to replace it or put up with it

    how old is it?

Hi Dave, thanks for the response. It’s actually one that we inherited when we bought the house but we believe it’s a 2008/9 model, although it doesn’t appear to have had that much use.
Would replacing the board be something a reasonably competent DIYer could do – ie a simple component replacement?
    Thanks.

even i cant replace the board

boards come blank and have to be programmed that means its a hotpoint only job or an independant who has invested in the programming gear

board may just have a software error and need reprogramming

as a long shot it could be failing capacitors on the board. when an electrolytic capacitor fails it quite often bulges on the top

Thanks Dave, appreciate you taking the time to explain that.

It sounds like it could become a major expense and it would probably make ore sense to invest in a new one instead.
I think, for now, we’ll just live with it until if it gets worse.

    Thanks again
