Hotpoint oven ST87EX Potentiometer?

The Grill/ Top oven element is not coming on in this oven although the element checks out ok. All other elements work and the thermal cut out is ok. I was thinking there could be something wrong with the potentiometer selector as when I was trying to select different functions/ elements it seemed to have a mind of its own and elements seemed to be coming on that weren’t selected, although the top element would not come on. I’ve had this problem on washing machine potentiometers but not on an oven. I’m going to replace the potentiometer anyway but was wondering if anyone had come across this before on one of these and if the p’meter doesn’t do the job what else to look for apart from the main board?

Can’t be sure of the model number I had but certainly a very similar problem and the switch sorted it
