I have a 2016 Hotpoint /Ariston RDSG 86407 S EU (as I live in Spain) with a door lock that failed today. I am an electrician so followed the instructions on a YouTube video and found that when the door rubber is removed and the lock refitted, the lock appears to work, but when I refit the door rubber it doesn’t hold. I am concluding that the interlock and catch should be changed. Would you agree with this prognosis??

Nope. If it was all working okay before, it should be once you replace the lock assuming that was the only problem.

I’d suspect the seal isn’t seated back correctly from what you’re saying.

I took a further look at the door itself and found it to be low on the lock side such that the door had to be ‘lifted’ slightly in order for the catch to locate the lock. I suspect that my wife’s ‘slamming’ of the door had caused the inner section of the door to move out of alignment with the outside of the door such that a gap could be seen around the doors two component join. The door was ‘gently’ realigned and now works.

Thanks for responding. Next question will probably be “if had needed the interlock component where would I have sourced it for Southern Spain?”

NB. It’s not slamming the door but leaning on it with one hand whilst removing the washing with the other hand that causes the door to drop.;)
