Hotpoint RF60P too cold in fridge

This conventional one has two stats. Does the freezer stat just operate the high temp warning light? Or does it run the freezer even though the fridge has stopped asking for the compressor to come on?

Normally, the stat in the fridge controls the refrigeration operation and the one bolted to the back just switches the warning light on/off. Change the fridge stat for a VT9 and all should be in order.

This is weird. Stat clicked back on when i was defrosting evaporator with hairdryer. Fitted new stat did not see it go off. 😕
