    Hello,
I have a Hotpoint RFA60 fridge-freezer, purchased from Currys in July 2004. About 2 months ago the freezer started to over-freeze the contents – noticeable because ice-cream, etc, was way too hard. Then about a month ago, the red freezer low temperature light would come on for a few hours a day, and then go out again. Also, gurgling and whooshing noises could be heard (similar noises were apparent in the last 4 years only when using the fast-freeze button after a defrost). I then powered off, de-frosted the freezer, and re-started after about 4 hours. After 24h, red light still coming on periodically.

In the last few weeks, red light on permanently and freezer gradually warming up – ice cream became very soft. No ice or frost build-up in freezer and door seal fine. In the last few days, I had to remove all the food from the freezer – it was obviously starting to defrost with liquid water appearing inside. Cooling elements no longer cool to touch. Fridge working normally.

I looked at my contract and saw that there is 5 year’s parts cover (to July 2009), but £100 call-out charge. Is it worth paying this? Or is there something else I could check myself first? Or is it better to cut my losses and buy a new fridge-freezer?

    thanks
    Tony

Re: Hotpoint RFA60 freezer not working

It sounds like it has lost its gas.
I would be buying a new one as you are just going to be in for hard times if you get it regassed,it might work it might not.It will probably run ok for a couple of months then go off again.
Or you may be very lucky and it will be a succesful repair.
