Hi guys,
My 6 month old hotpoint Fridge/freezer combi has recently started leaking water onto the floor. Feeling around the sides, back, doors etc.. I cant seem to trace the leak or feel moisture anywhere. (Haven’t checked fully underneath). there is also no build up of water in the fridge or freezer itself.
I’ve been reading around trying to figure out what is wrong with it but i’m pretty stumped.
1) I’ve checked the drain pipe in the fridge. This is clear and water flows to the drip tray on top of the compressor. There is no leak in the drip tray as far as i’m aware.
2) The fridge freezer appears to be in fine working order. The fridge is cold and there is no major frost build up in the freezer. It’s never been defrosted before (only 6 months old) so could this be a problem? Frozen air vents of some sort?
3) The manual suggests a minimum ambient temperature of 16C. This leaking has started occurring on Sunday, when the temperature took a drop. Does anyone think this could the source of the problem? My kitchen isn’t heated, I’m pretty sure the temp is dropping below 16C on a night, when most of the water is to be found on the floor.
The manual mentions flicking a fast freeze switch on the inside of the fridge when temp is below 16C. I’ve just done this but have yet to see if it solves the problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, the unit is still under manufacturers warranty, but if a an engineer comes out and finds a problem that isn’t due to a manufacturing problem then it’s a £50 call out charge.
Thanks everyone.
Phill
